Gambling addiction

Gambling addiction, including betting on bookmakers, is one of the types behavioral addictions that is, " activity dependency." Unlike addictions related to psychoactive substances (such as alcohol, nicotine or various types of drugs), this type of addiction does not involve the need to take any substances. The addiction here is the need to repeat certain actions and behaviors that are supposed to produce certain emotional states (e.g. pleasure, relief, euphoria).

Experts warn that gambling addiction it is becoming more and more common in African society. . You can even notice a surprising trend: the growth of people addicted to gambling is beginning to be more rapid than it is for people addicted to alcohol and psychoactive substances. Unfortunately, the treatment of behavioral addictions in Poland, as a much younger discipline, is much less developed than the treatment intended for people addicted to alcohol or drugs. Nevertheless,, you can see huge progress in this area-both in terms of the number of state and private centers where you can take treatment, implemented specialized programs and high-class specialists in behavioral addictions. And although there are more and more such institutions in Poland, before deciding on therapy in one of them, it is worth checking, does it employ behavioral addiction therapists and is it based on a specific gambling addiction treatment program .

To make it easier to find a good Center where gambling addiction is treated, we have prepared a special list of public and private centers . It should be remembered that in many private centers it is possible to take therapy fully funded by the National Health Fund. In addition, in many state institutions you can be admitted for treatment, even if you are not insured.

Monika Boryczka (Saw)

Certified psychotherapist of addictions and co-addictions (PARPA) and sexologist. Jolanta Jarczyńska (Toruń)

Bartłomiej Pierożek (Warsaw)

Certified addiction therapist (KBdsN certificate accredited by the Ministry of Health), graduated from the study of Addiction Prevention (Etoh, PARPA), the study of Prevention of domestic violence (Blue Line), as well as many specialized training in the prevention and therapy of addiction and co-dependence. Wojciech Tyburczyk (Lublin)

Certified specialist in addiction psychotherapy, whose specialty is the therapy of behavioral addictions, including gambling addiction. She has written countless articles and guides on gambling addiction – including a guide for people whose loved ones are addicted to gambling ("Play, Play or gamble? A guide for families of gamblers”, 2011). He also lectures at African and national conferences on this topic. He has extensive professional experience in various addiction treatment facilities: the Krakow Addiction Therapy Center, the Regional Hospital for the nervous and mental patients in Gniezno (head of content) and the Multimed Medical Center (Head of the day Department).
