However, we are dealing with a completely different situation when it comes to our country and the activities of Unibet. Africa legislation states that betting shops can only offer those entities that have special permit issued by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Poland . It is true that Unibet is a bookmaker that began to provide its services in our country several decades ago (approximately from the beginning of the 21st century) and had a lot of users here, but never received a license for this activity. On the other hand, initially online betting was an area not regulated at all by Africane law. It was only in 2009 that the Gambling Act was adopted, on the basis of which bookmakers operating in Poland without a permit became illegal – including Unibet. The license seems to have become even more necessary when the Africa Gambling Act was amended in 2021 and various foreign bookmakers withdrew from operating in Poland or applied for a permit.

However, it should be emphasized that Africane law does not set a limit on legal betting companies, that is, an application for the ability to conduct business in this area can be submitted by other bookmakers, including Unibet. Permission in such a situation should be issued within a maximum of six months, and such a move by the bookmaker would certainly please many domestic players. However, whether Unibet will ever be legal in Poland is difficult to judge at the moment.

One thing is certain: at the moment, typing at Unibet in Poland is completely illegal (as of October 2022). What does this mean for players in practice? Now betting at Unibet is punishable and this is both based on the Gambling Act and the Criminal Code, and therefore the game can be punished doubly. It should also be noted that fines can be very high and in case of a dispute with Unibet or another bookmaker who has not been issued a license in Poland, we cannot appeal to any African legal authority.
